Theatre Clowning for Teachers
Inhalt
Artistic improvisation exercises with Angela Hopkins
Thematic and content focus:
Theatre clowning and improvisation help to develop openness, attentiveness and empathy. At the same time, teachers learn to deal with their own insecurity, fears and mistakes in a constructive and creative way.
Clowning is about engaging spontaneously, creatively and improvisationally with others and with one’s environment, based on the perception of the present moment. This fosters heightened awareness of the surroundings and a sense of inner centredness. Clowning is a process of letting go while at the same time engaging in artistic creation. It is an encounter with one’s essence and an act of selflessness, speaking directly to the heart. It represents a meaningful, purpose-giving, relationship-building encounter that lifts everyone involved out of everyday life and brings us into a warm, interpersonal space.
Clowning offers the opportunity to develop self-confidence and to find the security that arises from presence, allowing possibilities for action to emerge. This experience can later be transferred to (pedagogical) practice, thereby creating a sense of confidence and stability.
We begin by warming up with games as well as voice and body exercises. We then continue with improvisations on stage (alone or with others). Each improvisation is discussed afterwards in order to bring out the positive and essential aspects of our clown and how it lives within us. All of this takes place gently and respectfully towards the individual, within a framework of rules that provides a safe and protective environment.
