Storytelling is a natural human ability and one the oldest forms of entertainment. It allows us to learn language in context and promotes the use of a rich descriptive vocabulary. Two key components of oral storytelling are mental imagery and improvised language – using words to ‚paint pictures‘ in the imaginations of the listeners.
Martin Maudsley is a professional storyteller based in the UK who has worked in schools, theatres, festivals and community projects for over 20 years. He has also run storytelling workshops and courses at universities, colleges, museums and for a range of organisations.
