Enlivening Text for Speaking Aloud in the Middle School

Tessa Westlake
In this workshop we will be working with speech, drama and creative writing exercises to develop voice, perceptive and expressive skills.  We will be playfully exploring some Middle School repertoire and bringing it to life.  The choice of classic and modern texts range from tongue twisters to literature – verse, story, dialogue – and will include something seasonal.  Please wear comfortable clothes for moving in, and shoes such as trainers.

Tessa Westlake is a voice coach and leader of creative speech workshops for teachers and is based in Cologne.  She works with oral and written literature in the English language.  After her degree in Comparative Literature at the University of East Anglia, she did the four-year speech and drama training at the London School of Speech Formation, and then toured full-time internationally for five years, performing in schools and theatres with Ashdown Eurythmy and the Rose Theatre Company.  Also trained and experienced in TEFL, she has worked mainly in adult education for over thirty years, including in the Waldorf trainings in Witten, Berlin, Stuttgart, Mannheim and the annual autumn English Week for teachers at Altenberg.
